From 1977 to 2014, the Purulia Lok Sabha constituency was represented by the Forward Block (FB), one of the constituents of the Left Front in the state of West Bengal.
Jyotirmoy Singh Mahato is the incumbent BJP MP who wrested the seat from TMC in 2019 by defeating its candidate Dr. Mriganka Mahato who had wrested the seat from Forward Block in 2014 .
