Sacred Relics of Sariputra and Maudgalyayana from Sanchi Stupa to Be Sent to Mongolia

The sacred relics of Lord Buddha's two chief disciples will be taken to Mongolia for exposition. These sacred relics from the UNESCO World Heritage Site Sanchi Stupa in Madhya Pradesh are being sent to Mongolia on a special initiative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Tomorrow these relics of Sariputra (Sāriputta) and Maudgalyayana (Maha Moggallana) will be exhibited to the public at the National Museum in New Delhi.

From May 31, the relics will be kept for public display in Mongolian capital Ulaanbaatar.

The relics of Sariputta and Maudgalyayana are placed for public viewing once a year at Sanchi and thousands of Buddhist devotees from around the world come to Sanchi for a glimpse.

Earlier, the sacred relics were also taken to Cambodia and Thailand.

Aurangzeb, the last great Mughal emperor, died in 1707. Muhammad Shah became Mughal emperor in 1719. During the interregnum, Bahadur Shah I , Jahandar Shah, Farrukhsiyar, Rafi-ud-Darajat and Rafi-ud-Daula ascended the Mughal throne. Turkan-i-Chahalgani, the Group of Forty

Amir-i-Chahalgani, known variously as Turkan-i-Chahalgani and Chalisa (The Forty), was a group of 40 faithful slaves which came into existence with the task of protecting Shamsuddin Iltutmish , the third Slave Sultan of Delhi Sultanate.
