Belsand
Located in the Sitamarhi district in Bihar, Belsand is currently held by Sanjay Kumar Gupta of the Rashtriya Janata Dal. He had won the seat in 2020 by defeating his nearest rival and then sitting Janata Dal (United) MLA Sunita Singh by a margin of 13,931 votes.
Sunita Singh had emerged victorious from the Belsand seat in 2015 and 2010 on the ticket of JD(U).
Earlier Sunita had won the Belsand assembly seat in February polls in 2005 on a Lok Janshakti Party ticket by defeating the sitting RJD MLA Ram Swarth Rai who was elected from the seat in the previous assembly elections in 2000 by trouncing her (Sunita’s) husband Rana Randhir Singh Chauhan, who was in the fray as a Samata Party nominee.
She joined the JDU and contested unsuccessfully the next Assembly elections in October/November in 2005 against the RJD’s Sanjay Kumar Gupta.
In 2010, the congress had won only four seats in 2010 assembly polls to Bihar. The Janata Dal (United) did not nominate any candidate because it went to the polls in alliance with the BJP in the last assembly polls in Bihar. While the BJP managed to claim 91 seats, the JD (U) candidates emerged victorious from 115 constituencies. The Rashtirya Janata Dal (RJD), which contested the elections together with the LJP, put up a dismal performance by winning only 22 seats.

Vrishin Patel, former education minister in the Nitish Kumar cabinet, had won the Belsand assembly seat on the ticket on Samata Party in a byepoll in 1996. The byepoll was necessitated due to the resignation of the sitting Janata Dal MP Raghubans Prasad Singh who was elected to the Lok Sabha from the Vaishali parliamentary constituency in 1996.
Raghubans Prasad Singh has successfully contested the Belsand assembly seat in 1977, 1980, 1985 and 1995.
Belsand went in favour of the Congress last time in 1990 when its nominee Digvijay Pratap Singh won the seat by defeating Raghubans Prasad Singh.
Belsand is one of the six assembly constituencies that unite to form the Sheohar parliamentary constituency currently represented by Lovely Anand of the JD(U). Other five assembly constituencies are Chiraia, Madhuban, Sheohar, Riga and Dhaka.
